A Chillum is basically your everyday pipe with a twist. It consists of a small, hollow tube with a bowl on one end & a mouthpiece on the other. The key difference between Chillums and other glass pipes is that Chillums don’t have a hole in a bowl that controls airflow (AKA a carb). The most common type of Chillum is glass. What’s the difference between a Chillum and a One-hitter?
In this case, size does matter. One-hitters are usually more compact and manufactured in uniformed tubes – often made to resemble cigarettes -- while Chillums are larger with a cone-shaped bowl, similar in functionality to a traditional pipe. Chillums allow for a more leisurely experience, used in a space you are familiar and comfortable with, where being discreet isn’t a major concern. You can typically fit more flower in a Chillum, so you don’t need to repack as often. One-hitters are usually designed to look low-key & take up as little space as a standard cigarette. They’re also very aptly named – most one-hitters only hold enough flower for one hit.
What are the benefits to using a Chillum?
If you’re looking for something smaller than a traditional pipe that still holds a decent amount of flower, Chillums are your jam. Most chillums can hold about 0.35 grams of ground flower (a little less than your average pre-roll), which makes them great for sampling new strains or enjoying a solo sesh.
