As we approach Veterans Day, we are reminded of the remarkable courage, dedication, and sacrifice displayed by our nation's veterans. These brave men and women have selflessly put their lives on the line to defend our freedoms, and their contributions are immeasurable. However, it's equally important to acknowledge the challenges veterans face as they reintegrate into civilian life, often grappling with physical and emotional scars that can make the transition overwhelming.
What might come as a surprise is that a staggering 75% of veterans express interest in using cannabis or cannabinoid products as a treatment option if it were available. Despite this clear demand, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) remains reluctant to provide access to medical cannabis. Recent VA directives have upheld the ban on VA doctors issuing medical cannabis recommendations to their patients, denying veterans access to a proven treatment option.
The good news is that progress is being made in Congress. The House recently passed a bipartisan amendment allowing VA doctors to recommend medical cannabis to military veterans. The Senate Appropriations Committee also stands in support of this reform, marking a significant step forward in addressing the needs of our veterans and affording them the care and support they truly deserve.
We believe in standing up for our veterans and their right to access the best possible treatments, including plant-based medicine. You can join us in this critical mission by taking action today:
1. Sign the NORML Petition: Show your support for veterans' access to medical cannabis by signing the NORML petition. Your signature can make a difference.
2. Write to Your Legislature: Take a proactive step by writing to your state and federal legislators, urging them to support legislation that grants veterans access to plant-based medicine. Your voice matters, and your letter can be a catalyst for change.
3. Spread the Word: Share this message with your friends, family, and social networks. The more people who understand the challenges veterans face and the potential benefits of plant-based medicine, the stronger our collective voice becomes.
At Parallel, we are resolute in our commitment to alleviate the burden of medicine on veterans. In Massachusetts, we extend evergreen veterans discounts as a token of our heartfelt gratitude for their service.
Let us always remember that our veterans have made immeasurable sacrifices for our nation. It is our solemn duty to stand beside them and fervently advocate for their access to treatments that can enhance their lives. Together, we can make a profound and lasting difference.
Thank you for joining us in this important endeavor and let us continue to honor our veterans not only on Veterans Day but every single day.
