Cannabis Tolerance

How To Reset without a Full Break

You’ve felt the benefits of cannabis, whether that’s reducing pain and anxiety, boosting your mood and social life, or helping you with symptoms of illness. But after a while, some patients report that they don’t feel those effects as strongly as when they started. It is possible to hit a plateau like this, a range where your body may have established a new normal and isn’t absorbing cannabis like it used to. Some think that this means it’s time for a tolerance break, or “T-Break". But that’s not necessarily true! If you’re thinking it’s Cannabis Tolerance Break Time, consider that you’ve got other options besides quitting cold turkey.

What is Cannabis Tolerance?

As a person is repeatedly exposed to something, they may have a diminished reaction to it. This is called a tolerance. It’s true of everything from medications and alcohol to music and food. When it comes to cannabis, tolerance is different for everyone. Everything from your consumption habits right down to your DNA makes your personal tolerance entirely unique. This is what separates the Snoop Doggs and Seth Rogens from the “one-hit wonders” who take one puff and sleep through the night.

Some research suggests that heavy cannabis users may have increased tolerance due to their endocannabinoid system becoming less sensitive to THC over time. Basically, if you regularly take high-THC products, your body learns to compensate by not reacting as strongly to it. If you notice that you need higher or more frequent doses to achieve the same result, your body is building a tolerance.

What’s The Problem?

Cannabis is notoriously safe – one of the safest medications available. Not a single overdose death has ever been reported, and it could help patients reduce or eliminate their dependency on opioids. But sometimes, the body becomes sort of “used to” your cannabis intake. Your usual intake methods become habits, your daily dose becomes the baseline, and the strength of cannabis effects on you begin to plateau. Don’t worry! There are plenty of ways to address this without giving up all the benefits of your favorite cannabis products.

Why T-Break?

It’s not all fear of rare conditions that drives people to curb their cannabis consumption. There are plenty of reasons why you might want to reevaluate your usage. Maybe you’re not getting the effects that you used to, so you’re wondering how to lower or reset your cannabis tolerance. Maybe you prefer smoking flower and want to give your lungs a break. Maybe you’ve got a taste tolerance to your edibles and just can’t stand the same flavor gummies any longer!

But don’t worry about how long you need away from cannabis to reset your tolerance, you can lower it – and get those potent effects – simply by changing a few habits. You can simply consume less (or products that are less potent). Or you can change your whole route of administration (ROA) – instead of smoking, try edibles. Swap your vape for a tincture. Small changes like these get you out of familiar patterns and help your body drop its tolerance.

Make Time for Break Time

Less is more, and while it can be tough to self-regulate, the rewards will be worth it.

Take your usual consumption and cut it down. Try dosing only at night, or restricting yourself to weekends. Before long, your body will adjust and cannabis will start to pack the same potent punch you’ve been missing.

Dose Control

Premium flower is a classic consumption method, but even if you measure out every gram, it can be hard to know exactly how much THC you’re getting when smoking a joint.

Instead, try Full Spectrum Oil. This distillate gives you every compound from the cannabis plant, so you’re getting all the effects of flower in a very specific dose.

Reducing your doses, or simply changing your habits can help your body reset its cannabis tolerance and get you back to feeling like your best self.
